Internet Gurus Finally Get The Picture
It’s funny that the internet gurus took so long to figure out what the rest of us know: that we don’t want to know what’s on the web because we already know what’s out there. Absolutely everything is out there, and there is way too much of it! What we ordinary folk want to know a lot of the time is what is right here on earth where we find ourselves physically. So if I am searching for a Vietnamese restaurant in Los Angeles, then that is all I really want to be told about. I don’t want Google to send me off to Jeff’s Vietnamese Foodie Blog and Jeff lives in Sydney and he doesn’t even list restaurants in Sydney, never mind LA!. At least one search directory has figured out that much, and the imminent launch of Bizwiki.com is going to make looking for businesses, organizations, associations, etc. (real ones, not virtual ones) and straightforward and rewarding experience - and it’s free of charge. Bizwiki (which launched in the UK this year) gathers and publishes detailed information about the world’s companies - even those without a website. This says a lot. What’s more, it has a “wiki” aspect to it, which means that you or me or anyone who can tap a keyboard and sign on can edit, review, improve the listings. It will be great to give feedback on companies and get the feedback of others. It would be nice to know what others think of a restaurant that I am reading about and thinking about trying. That is the sort of empowerment the internet should really be offering, I believe. I’m going to be a good net-citizen!

Thank god! You’re right. I often look for a business in my area and only find blogs and internet guru crap that is totally irrelevant. I’m hoping that the search engines can penalize the monkeys putting out the bad info.
