Plan to Finance College with FAFSA4caster
The Federal Student Aid office of the U.S. Dept. of Education now has a great resource students can use to start finding out about college financing while they’re still in their junior years. It’s the FAFSA4caster website at fafsa4caster.ed.gov. It provides a way for students to obtain a fairly accurate estimate of the amount of federal student aid they’ll qualify for. It also explains federal student loan options for parents as well as students and gives helpful advice about applying for grants and scholarships, too.
One advantage of using the FAFSA4caster site is that a lot of the information entered can be transferred to a student’s actual FAFSA application they can file on the web when they’re ready to apply. This can save busy students time in their senior year.
Students can also get information about financing college by following the students.gov link on the FAFSA4caster site. The students.gov site has a “pay for your education” section that discusses financial aid, variable versus fixed interest rates on student loans and other types of student aid. It also features a detailed section on college costs where students can access a financial aid estimator, cost projector, savings planner and student loan payment calculator to help them prepare for paying for college.
