Selecting Grade When Buying Teak
Have you been admiring a friend’s or neighbor’s teak garden furniture? Teak chairs and tables are more than just beautiful to look at. They’re the most weather-resistant, long-lasting and low-maintenance furniture pieces in the world.
All teak furniture is durable and beautiful, but there are different grades to choose from. If you’re looking for a set of teak furniture, consider only buying Grade A teak.
Why pay more for a Grade A teak set of furniture? Grade A teak comes only from the heart of trees aged 60 years or more. It’s free of knots, cracks and other defects that can compromise strength and durability long-term. Grade A teak is also kiln dried to reduce moisture content. This helps prevent cracking, too.
If you’re buying only one piece and find the difference in price between Grade A teak and standard grades too extreme for your budget, a standard grade is a viable option. One feature of Grade teak furniture is its uniform color and grain, and its flawless machining that perfectly matches all the pieces of a furniture set. If you are buying 1 or 2 teak benches or another single piece, uniformity and precision matching will not be an issue. Just look for furniture with as few blemishes as possible.
