Which Washer Fastener When?
Before you reach for hexagon plain nut fasteners, consider the different types of washers that are available to customize your fastener. Why give washers a second thought? There are several different washer designs, all with subtle but significant advantages.
One of the most common types of washer fasteners is the flat washer fastener. Like all washers, they help prevent fastener pull through and loosening by distributing pressure and relieving friction. Flat washer fasteners are ring shaped and come in a variety of diameters and thicknesses for precision matching to nuts, bolt and screws.
Lock washer fasteners are also used to help prevent nuts, bolts and screws from loosening. These washer fasteners place tension against nuts for more secure fastening. Lock washers are available in different styles, including internal teeth and external teeth varieties. Split lock washers look similar to flat washers but with a break or split in the ring. Lock washers are ideal for preventing bolts and screws from loosening by backing out.
There are other types of washer fasteners available, too. Browse online specialty fastener shop catalogs to learn more about the variety of washers available to choose from that will precisely match the fastening task you are completing.
